Date founded In early 2006, a working group among relevant ITS stakeholders was established in order to create the statutes and to prepare all the necessary actions towards the establishment of ITS Hellas. After 2 years, April 2008 of voluntary work ITS Hellas was officially established as a non profit limited company.

Mission/Strategy

The mission of ITS Hellas is:

  • To promote the deployment and use of ITS applications in Greece
  • To support transfer of Greek know-how and experience abroad
  • To focus on increasing road safety, environmental protection, efficient, green mobility and comfort of the public.

We believe that by involving all stakeholders, best practices can be applied to create the necessary content & infrastructure, to identify and smooth any institutional and legislative changes leading thus to successful ITS implementation. ITS Hellas will speed up the growth of ITS in Greece for all relevant segments (vehicle, infrastructure, passenger and goods' transport).

 

ITS Hellas objectives:

  • Providing support and encouragement of national (as well as regional and local) consensus and  cooperation related to ITS development and application
  • Assisting in the creation of a ITS national strategy which can form the groundwork of future     applications
  • Sponsoring or providing ITS training programmes, exchange of information and dissemination of R&D results
  • Building international contacts for the exchange of ITS experiences with other European and non-European organizations
  • Support its members on their participation on new initiatives both research but also implementation and validation ones
  • Consultancy Provision to government on ITS topics and formulation of National strategies and policies
  • Creation of Project Teams on important issues
  • Information of members on possibilities for research funding and other projects form National, European and International organisations
  • Supports the promotion of National Innovative Services and Products on ITS issues in third countries
  • Promotes the existing and new ITS standards applications
  • Participates in the evaluation of new and existing ITS applications
  • Promotes Public and Private Partnerships (PPP’s) for ITS applications.
Main Achievements
  •  The period between April 2008 and January 2010 is an intermediate period, during which ITS Hellas succeeded main goals set such as drafting necessary documentation and building ITS awareness in Greece and abroad.
  • October 2008, ITS Hellas hosted the meeting of ITS National Associations in Thessaloniki. Also the same period became the “6th eSafety Observers European yearly meeting” in Thessaloniki with the initiative of ITS Hellas and the participants of various members of ITS Hellas.
  • January 2008, ITS Hellas  participated with presentation in “SatForum 2008 Congress”, which was organized by Ministry of Transport and Communication and French Embassy in Athens.
  • ITS Hellas has started collaboration with neighboring countries such as Cyprus
Current and Future actions

In January 2010, ITS Hellas held its first management board elections and General Assembly. The members of the new ITS Hellas Management Board are the followings:
